In the quest for fortifying our homes and businesses against potential threats, the role of surveillance cameras cannot be overstated. However, traditional security cameras often come with limitations, such as fixed installation locations and reliance on Wi-Fi connectivity.
This is where the importance of a trail camera comes in. A versatile and innovative solution, trail cameras transcends these constraints to offer unparalleled security monitoring.
In this article we’ll cover the details of using a trail camera as a security camera, exploring the advantages of a trail cam vs security camera8, how to choose the right models, and strategic placement for maximum coverage, ensuring you’re well informed and up to date on how to use a trail camera for security.
When considering using a trail cam as a security cam, it's crucial to select the right model for your needs. Here are some key factors to consider:
Remember to keep in mind your own goals and location of deployment—ensuring that your camera has the right attributes for your situation will give you a seamless integration into your security setup and comprehensive coverage for that highly important peace of mind.
People often find themselves thinking, ‘how do trail cameras work without wifi?’, and the short answer is that it depends. Surveillance cameras are divided into two categories: remote access cameras, and memory storage cameras.
When comparing remote access cameras to memory storage cameras, the primary distinction lies in how they handle data storage and accessibility. Remote access cameras, also known as cloud-based cameras, store footage on remote servers accessible via the internet. This setup offers the convenience of accessing footage from anywhere with an internet connection, providing real-time monitoring and playback options.
However, internet access is not always an option for remote areas—luckily, memory storage cameras store footage locally on onboard memory cards or external storage devices. While this requires physical access to the device to retrieve footage, it enables setup in virtually any area, and also offers a higher level of privacy, since your data is never uploaded to the internet.
Ultimately, the choice between remote access and memory storage cameras depends on factors such as data privacy preferences, internet connectivity reliability, and the need for remote monitoring capabilities.
Once you've selected the right trail camera for your security needs, the next step is strategic placement to maximise coverage. Here are some tips to guide you:
While a trail cam as a security cam might not be the first thought that comes to mind, it is definitely one of the best ways to create a robust security network. By strategically placing a few trail cameras, you can significantly enhance the safety and protection of your home or business premises, while also allowing you to keep tabs on your operation and ensure that it runs as smoothly as possible.
Trail cameras are a great alternative to traditional security cameras when you need extra flexibility, versatility and reliability when it comes to surveillance. By understanding how trail cameras work, with and without internet connectivity, and leveraging their unique features and capabilities, homeowners, business owners, and security professionals can make informed decisions to harness the power of these devices and effectively enhance their security measures.
Whether you're safeguarding your property against intruders or monitoring the operations on your property, the versatility and performance of trail cameras make them a valuable addition to any security arsenal.

]]>In the intricate dance of nature and agriculture, farmers face numerous challenges. From unpredictable weather patterns to pest invasions, the risks to crops and livestock are ever-present. However, modern technology offers a helping hand in safeguarding farms against these threats. Enter trail cameras, the silent sentinels of the agricultural landscape. Stick with us, and we'll explore how farmers are harnessing the power of trail cameras to protect their valuable assets, and answer once and for all the question of are surveillance cameras effective?
Why are security cameras important in the agricultural sector? The answer lies in the vulnerability of farms to various external factors. Whether it's wildlife encroachment, theft, or trespassing, the stakes are high for farmers. Protecting crops and livestock isn't just about financial security; it's about preserving livelihoods and ensuring food security for communities. With the rise of modern farming practices and the increasing need for efficiency, the role of surveillance cameras has become indispensable.
In rural areas, where farms can span vast expanses of land, traditional security measures may fall short. Employing manpower for constant surveillance is neither practical nor cost-effective. This is where trail cameras come into play. These compact, versatile devices offer a cost-effective solution to monitor large areas with minimal human intervention. By strategically placing trail cameras around their property, farmers can maintain a watchful eye on potential threats without the need for constant physical presence.
People often wonder things like ‘why are cameras important?’ or ‘are cameras effective?’, and these are valid questions. To answer them, let’s take a look at some of the features of Pro Choice trail cameras. Engineered with the ruggedness and reliability required for outdoor use, these cameras are tailor-made for farm security. Here are some of their key features:
24/7 Monitoring: With advanced motion sensors and night vision capabilities, Pro's Choice trail cameras keep a vigilant eye on your property round the clock. Whether it's the dead of night or the crack of dawn, these cameras remain alert, ready to capture any unusual activity.
Remote Access: Gone are the days of patrolling your farm on foot. With these cameras, you can conveniently monitor your property from the comfort of your home or office. Simply connect to the camera's feed via your smartphone or computer and stay updated in real-time.
High-Quality Imaging: Clarity is key when it comes to surveillance footage. The trail cameras deliver crisp, high-resolution images and videos, ensuring that you can identify potential threats with ease. From wildlife intruders to suspicious individuals, nothing escapes the watchful gaze of these cameras.
Durability: Farming is a tough job, and so are Pro's Choice trail cameras. Built to withstand harsh weather conditions and rugged terrain, these cameras are designed for long-term outdoor use. Whether it's scorching heat or torrential rain, you can rely on Pro's Choice cameras to keep performing day in and day out.
The benefits of Pro's Choice trail cameras extend beyond mere surveillance. With the ability to capture valuable data on wildlife behaviour and crop growth patterns, these cameras serve as invaluable tools for farm management. By analysing the footage captured by trail cameras, farmers can gain insights into the health of their crops and make informed decisions to optimise yield and efficiency.
While it’s obvious that trail cameras are an invaluable addition to any agricultural enterprise, you should also consider the benefits of security cameras at home. While home alarm systems are common, there are several facts about security cameras that give them the edge in the alarm system vs security camera debate8, such as:
Remote monitoring: While alarm systems can notify you when tripped while you’re away from home, they don’t give you any further information about what’s actually going on at your house. Security cameras have the advantage of letting you monitor them remotely through your device, giving you perfect information on any potential threats, allowing you to respond and alert authorities as necessary in real time.
Evidence: An alarm system can be tripped in any number of ways, and doesn't record any information aside from that it was set off. Security cameras, on the other hand, save video of everything that they capture, leaving you with hard evidence of everything going on at your home.
Deterrence: While security cameras can be disguised and discreetly placed, it is often an advantage to have them displayed out in the open and in clear view. The threat of having their actions caught on camera in high definition is often powerful enough in itself to deter any would-be miscreants from messing with your property.
Peace of Mind: Finally, one of the most important factors is the peace of mind that a solid surveillance camera provides. You can rest easy knowing that your property is thoroughly protected, and in the worst case scenario you have all the evidence you could need.
If someone ever asks you the question ‘why are surveillance cameras good?’, you should be able to give them a confident answer. With all their strengths, it’s no wonder they’re becoming an essential part of every home’s security system.
The benefits of security cameras extend far beyond the confines of urban spaces. For farmers and agricultural professionals, these devices serve as invaluable tools in protecting crops and livestock from potential threats, as well as being a fantastic security tool for homes. Whether you’re interested in protecting your livelihood or your family, you’ll never have to wonder ‘are surveillance cameras effective? ever again.
And when it comes to security, peace of mind is paramount. That’s why Pro’s Choice exists. Our trail cameras are designed so that whatever happens, you know you have the best protection possible. Whether you’re looking to protect your farm or spot illegal dumpers, between our cameras ranging from motion activated detection to night vision and wide-angle trail cameras, we have something that will fit your needs perfectly.
]]>We will delve into essential techniques for how to set up a trail cameras, ensuring you capture the beauty and spontaneity of wildlife. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced photographer, these insights will enhance your skills in capturing captivating images in natural settings.
The art of trail camera photography hinges on strategic placement to capture authentic wildlife behaviour. Here’s how you can optimise your trail camera setup:
Understanding the daily routines and movement patterns of wildlife is crucial. Spend time in the area you plan to set up your camera, observing the behaviour and paths of local animals. This knowledge will inform where and when to place your camera for the best chances of capturing compelling footage.
Position your camera near game trails, water sources, or feeding spots. These areas are frequently visited by a variety of animals and provide excellent opportunities for diverse captures. For instance, placing cameras near water bodies can yield fascinating images of animals in their most natural and relaxed states.
Consider the height at which you place your camera. Adjusting the height to align with your target species can result in more engaging and eye-level photographs. This perspective offers a more intimate view into the lives of the animals you’re capturing.
It’s essential to securely mount your camera to ensure steady and clear images. Additionally, well-secured cameras are less likely to be disturbed by curious animals or extreme weather conditions.
Effective use of lighting is crucial in trail camera photography. Here’s how you can make the most of different lighting conditions:
Muddy camera settings can be beneficial in lower light conditions, such as dusk or dawn. These settings help to brighten images without excessive noise. However, be cautious not to overuse them as it can lead to grainy images.
Understanding the difference between 3 burst vs 3 trigger settings is important for trail camera use. The 3 burst setting captures a quick succession of three shots, which is ideal for fast-moving wildlife. In contrast, the 3 trigger setting is more suited for slower or more stationary subjects, as it conservatively captures images and conserves battery life.
What is a good air setting on trail cameras? Well, different environments require different air settings on your camera. Experiment with different settings to see how they affect the clarity and detail of your nighttime images, especially when using trail cam der mode or understanding what is der mode on a trail camera.
Another valuable feature to consider when setting up your trail cam DVR mode. So, what is DVR mode on a trail camera? Well, DVR mode allows continuous video recording for extended wildlife observation. In DVR mode, your trail camera records video clips instead of individual photos, giving you a different perspective on the activities of animals in your chosen location.
Selecting the appropriate PIR (Passive Infrared) setting is crucial for avoiding false triggers. But what is a good PIR setting on trail cameras? The ideal PIR setting for trail cameras varies based on your wildlife photography goals and the monitoring conditions, as it controls the camera's sensitivity to motion and heat, affecting when it captures images or videos. Experiment with different PIR settings based on your specific wildlife photography needs.
Regularly review your captured images and adjust your camera settings accordingly. This iterative process helps fine-tune your setup to the changing conditions of your environment, especially when you need covert camera settings.
Capturing the image is just the beginning; post-processing plays a significant role in trail camera photography. Here are some tips to enhance your images:
Start by organising your images. This initial step helps in identifying the best shots and makes the editing process more efficient.
Use photo editing software to adjust the exposure, brightness, and contrast of your images. These tweaks can significantly enhance the visual appeal of your photos, bringing out details and improving overall image quality.
Crop your photos to improve their composition. Focusing on the main subject by eliminating distracting elements can create more impactful and engaging images.
Adjust colours to make your images look as natural as possible. This step is crucial, especially in trail camera photography, where lighting conditions can vary significantly.
Apply selective sharpening to enhance the clarity and detail in your subjects. This is particularly effective for bringing out textures in wildlife, such as fur or feathers.
Low-light conditions often result in grainy images. Utilise noise reduction tools to clean up your photos, making them clearer and more professional-looking.
Mastering trail camera photography opens a window into the natural world, allowing you to capture and share the beauty of wildlife in its purest form. By knowing how to set up trail camera—focusing on strategic placement, maximising light conditions with the right trail camera settings, and refining your images through post-processing—you can turn simple shots into captivating stories.

]]>Securing your home starts with a bit of sleuthing—identifying its vulnerabilities. It's all about a detailed inspection of your property to spot potential entry points for unwelcome guests. We're talking about more than just doors and windows here.
Put on your detective hat and look for all potential entry points, including those less obvious ones like basement windows or second-story access points.
Your main focus should be on primary entry points—the front door, back door, garage, and ground-level windows.
A handy outdoor security camera placement diagram can be a great tool to visually plan where to place home security cameras, ensuring comprehensive coverage around your home.
Check the lighting around your property. Well-lit areas can deter intruders and improve camera visibility, especially at night. Consider adding lights in darker areas to enhance camera effectiveness.
Effective camera placement combines strategic height and field of view (FOV) considerations. Install Pro’s Choice cameras between 2-4 meters high to deter tampering and ensure optimal coverage. Select the right FOV for each area: use our 120-degree wide-view lens for broad area coverage and the 52-degree natural-view lens for targeted surveillance within your Area of Interest (AOI), effectively covering up to 20 meters.
The right FOV is crucial for comprehensive surveillance. Pro's Choice cameras offer wide or natural views to suit different surveillance needs. Wide-view lenses are ideal for larger AOIs, while natural-view lenses focus on specific areas, ensuring no corner or junction is left unmonitored.
The best placement for security cameras often involves high-traffic zones like entryways, central corridors, and spacious common areas. Pro's Choice cameras, equipped with a PIR motion sensor range of up to 15-20 meters, expand your surveillance reach. This allows for effective monitoring of immediate and extended AOIs, ensuring thorough property coverage.
Always position your cameras to avoid overlooking neighbours’ private spaces, adhering to local privacy laws and norms.
Ensure cameras are not obstructed by trees, decor, or architectural features for an unimpeded view.
Placing cameras at an optimal height can prevent tampering and provide a better vantage point.
Blending indoor and outdoor cameras is crucial for a comprehensive view of your home's security. This integration is about creating a cohesive network that allows both sets of cameras to complement each other, providing a seamless flow of surveillance inside and outside your home.
Achieving this harmony involves syncing camera systems together. Use a central management system or a compatible app to view feeds from indoor and outdoor cameras simultaneously. This approach ensures you're always in the know, whether there's movement in your backyard or hallway.
When placing cameras indoors, aim for main entry points like front and back doors and windows. Also, consider placing cameras where valuables are stored, such as safes or office spaces, and in common areas like living rooms and kitchens. The idea is to monitor the paths an intruder might take inside your home.
For outdoor monitoring, in addition to front door camera placement, strategically cover areas like driveways, backyards, and side paths. Security camera positioning in these areas helps monitor any unusual activity around the perimeter of your home.
It’s essential that your indoor and outdoor cameras work in tandem. For instance, an outdoor camera can monitor the approach to your front door, while an indoor camera covers the entry point itself. This way, you can track an intruder’s movements if they manage to enter your home.
Make sure your indoor and outdoor cameras are compatible in terms of connectivity. This includes Wi-Fi strength, especially for outdoor cameras that may be further from your router. Consistent connectivity ensures that the camera feeds are always accessible and reliable.
Taking your camera positioning to the next level involves more than just basic placement.
Setting up your home with strategically placed cameras is not just a security measure; it's a step towards comprehensive safety and peace of mind. The best home security camera placement depends on your property's layout and specific security needs. Pro's Choice offers various home security solutions for multiple applications, from home to farm security.

to fly tipping. Worst of all, many of the substances dumped could have easily been recycled or legal disposed
of. In some instances, however, they are filled with dangerous chemicals ranging from asbestos to oil.
The NSW Environment department has decided to take a stand against illegal dumping by recently
purchasing cameras from Pro?s Choice. Keep reading to learn about the cameras they have purchased and

In order to achieve this goal, we have partnered with WildTiger, an organisation that provide?.................
At Pro?s Choice, we care about the animals we share the planet with. While we sell hunting and trail cameras, we?re committed to ensuring that hunting remains a regulated industry and protects any animals that are close to extinction.
In order to achieve this goal, we have partnered with WildTiger, an organisation that provides wildlife conservation solutions throughout the globe, including their most recent project, LeopardEye. Read on to discover more about this great initiative and how you can get involved.
What is LeopardEye?
LeopardEye is a WildTiger initiative, providing invaluable data about wildlife conservation. The project has a wide range of applications, including the tracking of conflict animals such as near-extinct tigers and leopards and the prevention of poaching in illegal areas.
The project uses non-invasive strategy, which means that the animals live as ?normal? a life as possible. Through scientific research and technology, WildTiger are able to monitor the comings and goings of animals and ensure the survival of their species.
One of the key parts of the project involve the use of remote trail cameras, supplied by Pro?s Choice. Each camera is able to talk to the other, creating a daisy chain of activity. This data is sent back to a base station through cellular (3G/4G) technology and closely monitored by WildTiger. So far, LeopardEye has played a pivotal role in the arrests and convictions of people involved in environmental crime.
Who are WildTiger?
Founded in 2007, WildTiger has undergone significant changes over the past decade. Initially created as a vehicle for environmental research, they quickly moved into project development. By 2013, they became a private sector organisation under the full name WildTiger Conservation Research and Development. Their aim is to connect with dynamic partners both in private and public sectors in order to get their message out to as many people as possible.
Pro?s Choice assists WildTiger by donating technology resources, such as the trail cameras for LeopardEye in order to assist them with both their groundwork and their research. Together, we are committed to a better future for near-extinct wildlife, such as leopards and tigers in Nepal and surrounding countries.
How can you help?
If you are interested in learning more about WildTiger and the projects they are currently developing, you can email them directly at projects@wildtiger.org to get involved. Alternatively, you can keep up-to-date by reading their blog.

It wasn?t just once, either. Residents of the apartment complex advised they had found evidence of his dirty deeds on more than one occasion. After growing increasingly frustrated, they bought a wireless night-vision camera to try and catch Macintosh in the act.
We never thought we?d have to say that capturing poo joggers was not the intended target of our night vision cameras, but it?s nice to see that they?ve contributed to justice being served!
Amateur sleuthing is on the rise
This isn?t the first time someone has been caught on camera doing something they shouldn?t. Thanks to advances in technology from leading camera brands such as Spypoint and ScoutGuard as well as a bourgeoning online market, prices for quality trail and security cameras have seen a significant reduction in price. This means more and more people have been investing in quality cameras to keep an eye on their pesky neighbours.
Cyber investigator Simon Smith told News.com.au that amateur sleuthing is on the rise. ?The average person is a little bit more savvy and they kind of investigate things themselves. It?s actually getting justice for a lot of people. From a crime perspective, it has helped.?
He went on to say, ?If you see an incident, it?s well worth recording it because there are situations where the truth is not always said in court.?
You?ll never know what you?ll catch with our cameras
The night-vision camera the residents at Greenslopes purchased came with motion detecting sensors, designed for capturing elusive wildlife. With no-glow flash technology, these cameras won?t spook animals ? or poo joggers. They can also wirelessly send you any photos taken, so even if you?re not at home when your local poo jogger strikes, you?ll have your evidence on hand.
While we can?t say for certain which brand or model the Greenslopes residents purchased to capture Macintosh?s dirty deeds, we can tell you that Pro?s Choice have a wide selection available online for anyone wanting to keep watch over their own front doors. Get your "poo jogger camera" today from us.?

If you are in the market for a new trail camera, then look no further than the latest from Spypoint. Well known for manufacturing innovative, premium products for hunting industries abroad, you can be confident that their latest camera comes with the precision and quality you would expect from their brand.
In this blog, we take a look at the features of the latest Spypoint Link-S and why you should consider it for your next trail camera purchase.
Easy activation and cloud communication
Straight away, the Spypoint Link-S screams user-friendliness. The design is simple but effective, and the activation is the easiest currently on the market, with a pre-activated SIM card included that can be connected to any of the leading telecommunications providers in Australia.
The free Skypoint app allows you to manage your account, camera settings and photos and allows you to store your pictures in the cloud for easy access anywhere in Australia or from overseas. Best of all, its connectivity comes with an in-built GPS that transmits the location of the camera even when it has been turned off, helping to prevent theft.
A game changer for animal trailing & security both!
When it comes to the camera’s functionality it’s still leading the market. With a 0.07 millisecond trigger speed and blur reduction technology, they are definitely one of the fastest cameras available today, making it perfect for animal trailing in any location.
If you’re planning to trail at night or use the Link-S as a security camera for your home or business, the new model also comes with Black Flash LEDs, along with infrared boost technology, to maximise the image quality at night, making it the ideal solution for night footage.
As for battery life, if this camera took 15 pictures during the day and another 15 pictures at night every 24 hours, it would last almost 3 months on one set of AA lithium batteries, a perfect complement for its 4G control capabilities. This is the camera to choose for distant locations.

There are a lot of gimmicks out there these days when it comes to new cameras. As technology continues to
advance, manufacturers continue to try new things that may or may not be useful. If you’re in the market for
a new trail camera, the question to ask yourself is what features are nice to have and what ones are non-
negotiable?
For those of you wanting to get into professional trail photography, we cover our top 3 most important
features. From brightness modes to photo management, keep reading to find out what the pros look for!
A flash that doesn’t spoke your animals or miss any detail
One of the most important features of any camera is the flash. A lot of thought goes into the type of flash a
trail camera has – specifically how many LED lights are used to comprise its flash. Today, a lot of quality
cameras offer infrared LEDs, with the top of the range providing what is known as Black Flash. This ensures
any animals that walk into your camera’s line of sight won’t be spooked by bright flashes.
Most importantly, a high-end camera can automatically adjust the strength of the flash depending on how
close the animal is to your camera, which avoids whiting out any of the details in the photo.
A burst mode that captures every millisecond
Even smartphone cameras offer burst mode these days. For home photography it’s a great way to capture
the most natural looking image – and the same can be said for trail cameras. When tracking animals, you
don’t want to miss any detail, especially if more than one walks by. That’s why the trigger speed on your
burst mode is exceptionally important, a feature that high-end trail cameras keep improving upon.
An easy to use photo management system
Checking on your camera after a month only to find out the SD card became full a couple of weeks ago can
be some trail photographer’s worst nightmare. That’s why a lot of quality trail cameras are now connected
via 3G/4G, so you can view your photos remotely and store them on the cloud as well as your SD card. Make
sure the camera that you choose has an easy to use app for photo management.
Only the best at Pro’s Choice
Lastly, the most important thing to consider when selecting your new camera is the brand. Only well-known,
established branded cameras can deliver these features – and more. This is because they have the funds
available for research and development, unlike smaller unknown brands that simply wait for the
functionality to become commonplace. The good news is if you buy through Pro’s Choice, you’re guaranteed
to get the best price – even on the big brands!

There’s a galaxy of choices to make when choosing a trail camera, but one of the most important decisions to make is which kind of flash you’ll be using. While most handheld digital cameras have nearly identical stock flashes, trail camera manufacturers have developed a range of flash options suitable for hunters, park rangers, and security personnel, so matching your needs to a flash type is crucial.
In this blog, we’ll dive into the range of options available for trail camera purchasers, looking at the different flash types and who they’re most suitable for. Read on and make an informed choice next time you head out into the bush.
White flash
Say cheese! A white flash trail camera looks just like a modern digital camera when it takes a photo, producing a highly visible and extremely bright flash of light to illuminate the scene. The upside of white flash cameras is that they are the only model that can capture beautiful, full colour shots. The downside is that they have a habit of scaring game – making tracking them afterwards that much harder. If you’re a park ranger or conservationist tracking specific individual animals, the extra detail provided by a white flash could be for you. If you’re a hunter or in security, you may want to consider something a bit subtler.
No-Glow/Infrared
No glow cameras are equipped with black LEDs that are invisible to both humans and animals. The flash on these cameras allows you to illuminate scenes with zero chance of scaring game, at the cost of producing only black and white photos. Technically minded hunters who are looking to invest in a 3G-enabled camera for faster, near-real-time response to photographs of game could consider a no-glow in order to minimise the risk of scaring away the animal.
Low-Glow
The middle-of-the-road, low-glow cameras produce a dim red glow that while difficult to see is still visible to the naked eye. This offers a trade-off between the brightness of white flash and the subtlety of no glow cameras. While still taking black and white photos, low-glow camera users can expect better illumination of the scene than with a no glow camera, but as with all models, read up on reviews before you commit, as all low-glow cameras are not created equal.
For more information on different flash types or to get your own camera, speak to the team at Pro’s Choice today.
]]>In this blog, we’ll look at the common mistakes trail camera users make, and how you can ensure that your precious images make it back home to your computer safe and sound. Read on to learn more...............
We know how exciting it can be to return to your trail camera after a long day out to find out what you’ve snapped a shot of, but make sure you don’t sabotage yourself. Many new trail camera users make the mistake of trying to view their photographs on the wrong device, frustrating you at best and potentially permanently destroying your photographs at worst.
In this blog, we’ll look at the common mistakes trail camera users make, and how you can ensure that your precious images make it back home to your computer safe and sound. Read on to learn more.
Avoiding SD card write protection
One of the worst decisions a trail camera user could make is to attempt to view their photos in the field on a digital camera. Especially if you’re relying on being able to quickly view your photos so you can start tracking that big buck, it can be tempting to just pop the SD card out of the trail camera and slide it into any commercial camera equipped with a viewing screen.
In a word, don’t. You could potentially lock yourself out of those photos forever, ruining a day’s work. While the hardware may be compatible, often the software in a digital camera and the software in a trail camera aren’t. Your trail camera’s SD card is likely to be formatted (configured) in such a way that it is only compatible with trail cameras, and trying to insert it into a digital camera will cause the SD card to become write-protected, meaning you’ll need to erase all the data on the card in order to access it on any device. Note that some trail cameras do allow you to drop your SD card into another device for viewing, so it’s important to check with the manufacturer or retailer if you wish to do this.
Investing in the right equipment
The only sure-fire way to view your photos is by plugging the entire device into the USB port of your computer and viewing them there. That way, you side-step the entire write protection issue and can safely extract the photographs for filing.
If you can’t wait and you’re raring to view your photos in the field, there are a couple of options open to you. Many trail cameras are manufactured with built in viewing screens, allowing you to quickly preview images without having to unstrap the camera from the tree and connect it to your computer. Alternatively, you could consider investing in a 3G-enabled camera and have every photograph sent straight to your phone in real time.
For more information on safely viewing your photographs or to learn more about the range of options open to you, speak to Pro’s Choice today.
]]>Why Your Next Trail Camera Needs To Come From Pro?s Choice
Trail cameras are a rapidly expanding market, with specialist retailers devoted to these products springing up every day. However, not all of these stores are created equal. As with any popular technology, there are an exploding number of fly-by-night retailers offering seemingly too good to be true prices on the latest models. While their prices may be cheap, that low cost has to be reflected in your customer experience somewhere. In this blog we?ll explain why the cheapest trail camera retailer is never the best, helping you make a safer, more informed choice. Read on to find out more.
The perils of drop shipping
A startling number of online retailers of trail cameras are what?s referred to as drop shipping businesses. Drop shipping businesses are a new invention for the eCommerce era, composed of a small online business responsible for taking orders, processing payments and interacting with clients, and a manufacturer or supplier who will actually maintains stock and fulfils the orders. The business will be purely online and will not hold any stock on hand, and so will most likely not be an official distributor or reseller of the brands they sell.
This high-speed, low-drag, on-demand business structure offers significant cost-savings for business owners and customers at the expense of everything else. You?ll likely receive subpar customer service from the business owner, who?s only skill may be identifying a commercially-viable niche and may lack the knowledge needed to correctly guide customers to the right product. If you?re not an expert in trail cameras, you could end up with something wildly inappropriate for your needs based on the advice of a technologically ignorant but commercially savvy drop shipper. Additionally, your camera may take longer to ship and arrive in the post in a worse condition than you?d like, as it will most likely have to be shipped internationally and
Furthermore, customers won?t be able to access their warranty through the local outlet. This is for several reasons ? one, by not being an official reseller, the local outlet won?t have any authority to claim on the warranty on behalf of the customer; two, being an online only business, they?ll lack the space needed to store the returned item and the replacement camera.

Choosing Pro?s Choice means being able to take advantage of our five guarantees. These are at the core of our business, and have been designed to ensure that each customer gets the very best experience when they shop with us. We guarantee:

Why Your Next Trail Camera Needs To Come From Pro?s Choice?
]]>Axedale farmer Tim Harrington was at the end of his rope.?
Hay was disappearing from his shed at an alarming rate, and it certainly all wasn?t going to his livestock. He?d
suspected for quite a while that someone was stealing from him ? while they?re not made of jewels, hay is
valuable, fetching up to $100 for a high-quality bale ? but wasn?t able to prove it. Covering more than 1000
acres of land alongside the Campaspe River between Axedale and Goornong, his farm was simply too large
and too spread out for him to be able to install everything needed to run a complicated closed-circuit
television system. The digging for the electrical and data cabling alone would be hugely expensive and highly
disruptive.
Luckily, there were other options. Tim decided to leverage a bit of technology favoured by hunters stalking
certain kinds of game. Officially referred to as remote cameras but more commonly known as hunting or
trail cameras, these small devices activate when they detect movement, snapping a high-resolution picture
of whatever?s set off their motion detector. Tim bought two, setting one up on his gate and one up at his hay
shed, and ended up finding out exactly where his hay was going. A car was brazenly backing up to his shed
and just loading up with valuable hay. With this photographic evidence, the police were able to identify one
man and arrest him, ultimately resulting in him receiving a 22-month prison sentence.
Offering real value in rural settings
Without help from state-of- the-art security cameras, Tim might still be getting robbed. His success story was
just one of the earliest. Since that thief was caught in March of 2014, many other farmers have switched on
to the value of trail and hunting cameras as security devices.
Pro?s Choice has been closely involved in helping some farmers beat the crooks and stop farm theft. In
August, our products helped Heathcote farmer Carl Watkins stop regular thefts of firewood from his
property. After losing more than $2400 in thefts over a period of months, Carl installed the Spromise S358
3G/GSM Cellular MMS Trail Camera on his property, an advanced model that is able to send photos to the
owner?s phone as they are taken, allowing even faster response to action. His smart decision allowed police
to catch the thief while still in the act when he struck again, leading to his being arrested and interviewed.
In the remote setting of an Australian farm, property owners can?t rely on common CCTV systems to keep
watch over every little thing on their land as a shop owner could. The immense distances these properties
cover mean that installing complex, internet-enabled camera systems is just impossible. That?s where Pro?s
Choice comes in. We offer something different for farmers. Rather than having to tether their system to a
generator and running kilometres of data cables across their property, our trail cameras are fully portable.
All of our models are powered by batteries and transmitting via the mobile phone network, getting the job
done at a fraction of the cost and the stress.
Getting the word out
The value of these systems is becoming increasingly recognised. So much so that the Victoria Police put
together the Farm Security and Farmers Health Expo at Bendigo Stadium in late August. Pro?s Choice was
represented by Leading Senior Constable Dan O?Bree, who demonstrated some products with a proven track
record of helping local organisations and private citizens catch intruders, thieves and other law-breakers.
Hundreds turned out to the expo, with many commenting on the impressive range of technology available
for the switched-on farmer looking to beef up their property?s security.
?Shows to me that this sort of technology?s valuable,? Carl Watkins said.
With farm crime on the rise across Victoria, police are pushing these systems as effective deterrents against
theft.
Nine News has reported that this year so far, more than $200,000 of livestock has been stolen across?Victoria, including $29,000 worth of sheep in Serpentine, $31,000 of cows in Echuca, and $20,000 worth of?bee boxes in Castlemaine.
Leading Senior Constable Dan O?Bree was at the expo showcasing the Pro?s Choice range and talking about
the importance of trail camera technology.
He told the Bendigo Advertiser that security technology should be a priority for any farmer looking to
protect their property.
?We know that farming properties and residences are viewed by criminals as easy targets because they can
be very remote,? he said.
?Security measures, such as installing cameras in isolated areas of rural properties, can be both a deterrent
and a useful tool in helping to identify offenders.?
Pro?s Choice was proud to be represented at the expo, and looks forward to helping Australia?s rural?industries protect their properties.
Senior-Constable O?Bree can be contacted on 5433 3711 or by email at dan.e.obree@police.vic.gov.au

The Importance of Trigger & Recovery Speed
When shopping for a new trail camera, there are a few things you should keep in mind, but two are arguably
more important that pretty much any other. Trigger and recovery speed are a measure of how fast a camera
is able to prepare to take a shot: the former refers to the amount of time between the passive infrared
sensor detecting movement and the camera taking the shot, and the latter to the amount of time between
successive shots.
Many people make the mistake of shopping for a camera based on the number of megapixels it boasts, but if
megapixels are the car’s top speed, trigger and recovery speed are the mileage – one is going to affect how
use it a lot more than the other. In this blog, we break down why finding a camera with a good trigger and
recovery speed is so important and give you a few examples where it can make the difference between a
productive hunting trip and a fizzler.
A better chance of a clean shot
If you’re hunting fast-moving game like rabbits, deer, ducks and other birds, a camera with a fast trigger time
will mean the difference between no picture and a picture at all. If the animal just grazes the edge of the
infrared sensor’s detection zone, you need a fast trigger time otherwise the animal might leave the frame
before the picture is taken. Without the right specs, you could return to your camera to find an SD card full
of unhelpful or empty images, effectively wasting the time the camera was in position.
Capturing multiple subjects
Where you’re hunting game that travels in large groups such as birds, a low recovery time is absolutely
essential, ensuring you get the maximum number of images possible. This allows you to more accurately
determine the size and composition of a group of animals, giving you the information you need to be better
prepared.
Even the fastest trigger time will be useless for herd shots without an equally fast recovery time. For
example, let’s say you’re hunting deer. Without a rapid recovery time, you’re likely to come back to a
camera full of pictures of does, and no bucks. Should the bucks follow the does, the camera will sense the
doe, take a picture, and the buck will slip past before it can take a second, leaving you with no information
about your target.
To find a camera with the trigger time you need, speak to the team at Pro’s Choice and let us equip you.
Separating the ordinary pieces of equipment from the extraordinary ones can be the difference between a satisfying hunting trip and a disappointing one. Whether you’re a novice hunter or have years of experience, ensuring you get the right trail camera plays a big role in your ability to effectively track game, so understanding what makes one worth your money is key to your success as a hunter.
To help everyone make a more informed choice about their next trail camera, we’ve rounded up what we think are the most important aspects to look for. Read on and ensure you’re getting something that will help you succeed out on the trail.
Responsivity
You’re trusting your camera to do the job of a trained photographer, so it needs to be able to shoot when you need it to. The two key metrics for this are trigger and recovery speed: Trigger speed is the amount of time between the camera sensing movement and taking a photograph, and recovery speed is the maximum amount of time between successive shots. A responsive camera – one with a low score for both of these metrics – will be able to take photos of even fast-moving game, and could potentially even give you a number of photographs of the same animal to assist in identification.
Image quality
This is an aspect people commonly approach with misconceptions. Image quality is about more than just the how many megapixels a camera has. A camera with a high megapixel count could still create blurry, grainy or noisy photographs because while its image sensor may boast 10 megapixels, the sensor may be of poor quality. Additionally, higher megapixel counts can decrease the useability of your camera by shooting average quality pictures with a hugely inflated file size, filling up your SD card faster.
Look for a camera with a quality image sensor, a decent lens and a good flash. The only way you’re going to be able to separate the good from the bad is here is research and actually looking at photographs the trail camera has taken.
Ease of use
Last but certainly not least, you want to be able to set up your camera and access its data quickly and easily. While still ruggedly constructed, many modern trail cameras are being offered with more advanced and intuitive controls, making them simpler than ever for the first-time user to work with. Some are also being offered with internal viewers for quick review of photographs. If you’re wondering what to look for in terms of usability, just imagining yourself trudging out the camera in the pouring rain – how quickly and easily can you get the job done so you can get out of the rain?
For more information on what to look for in a trail camera, speak to the team at Pro’s Choice.
]]>Camouflage is a not just a fashion choice, but originated in the attempt for individuals to conceal themselves in natural settings, amongst trees, within deserts, or the snow. The art of camouflage differs dependant on the environmental factors of the area. With the use of the right colour combinations and materials, concealment is made easy. Not only can you camouflage people, but cameras, equipment, tents and vehicles.
Camouflage in Nature
Born from nature, and the way that parts of the environment conceals itself. Mainly, camouflage is an adaptation of the way that animals use the landscape around then to disguise themselves from prey or predators. The art of camouflage all comes down to colour, and blending into surroundings of the same colouration. From years of evaluation, humans started to create outfits that allowed them to conceal themselves in nature, used heavily throughout history in war situations.
Camouflage in Military
Military operations have greatly benefited from the inclusion and evolution of camouflage over the years. Based on the way that animals used nature around them, outfits were created for humans to blend into different environments in order to conceal themselves in war situations. Different colour combinations are used based on the terrain, such as:
Camouflage with Hunters
Depending on the landscape they are in, hunters have taken to wearing camouflage clothing in order to conceal themselves. The environment must be considered to avoid using colour combinations that are easily detected by the animals they are hunting. Camouflage is often used by hunters in combination with a range of equipment, such as trail cameras, night vision cameras, bags, hats, shoes and more.

]]>Australian hunters have been buying camera equipment from Proschoice for years; our trail and game cameras are some of the best and most cost-effective tools to help you bring your targets to ground. But due to wildly varying state-level regulations, our customers are sometimes uncertain about what they are even legally allowed to hunt! Australia has about a million residents engaging in the hunting and shooting industry every year, but the overall negative attitude to the practice since the Port Arthur Massacre and the growth of environmentalism has led to stronger restrictions in many areas.
Here is the Proschoice quick guide to what to hunt with our game cameras, and where:
?
Queensland
The Sunshine State is one of the most permissive of hunting, so long as you have an appropriate weapons license. While the state declares no animals as game, many of its designated pest species make for great sport for our trail cameras. Feral cattle, horses, donkeys, and dogs are available along with four of the nation?s six deer species. All are commonly hunted by our customers.
?
Victoria
The south-eastern state and our most progressive socially, Victorian regulations limit duck, quail, and deer hunting to specific open seasons, and each year demonstrations and outcry threaten this state of affairs more and more. A license is required to hunt even during these seasons, as well as to own firearms.
?
Western Australia
WA restricts hunters to feral species only, and only on private land, but its broad population of feral animals creates one of the more favourable scenarios for our customers to set up trail cameras around their land. Targets include camels, donkey, feral horses, and cattle.
?
Tasmania
Our island state allows even minors to hunt so long as they have applied for a game license, and you can hunt across private, state, and crown land. Deer are prime targets for our customers, as well as wallabies.
?
South Australia
Similar to Victoria, South Australian game animals ? essentially just quail and duck species ? are allowable targets for hunting during open season only. However, many introduced species can be hunted freely all year round, including deer, camels, and blackbirds.
?
Northern Territory
NT allows almost free range hunting on its wide range of feral species. Providing ample opportunity to put trail cameras to use are camels, buffalo, banteng, horses, cattle, and several deer species. Waterfowl and pigs require a permit to hunt, and waterfowl hunting is further limited to a declared open season.
?
ACT
The smallest national territory, ACT also has the smallest allowable range of hunting, with only shooting of national pest species allowed, and only on private property with landowner permission. However, the sport is open to anyone with a firearms license.
]]>Trail cameras can be handy tools, invaluable hunting aids or a cost-effective security systems. These hard-wearing, easy to operate, and self-enclosed camera systems come packed with a wide variety of features, and heaps of technical specifications. But which ones are the most important. As Australia’s most veteran supplier of game and trail camera units, Proschoice understand better than anyone that these devices are often bought by a huge variety of people for just as varied a range of purposes. If you want to study animal movements during the day but end up buying a top-rated camera designed to provide front-gate surveillance for farmers, you will most likely end up being disappointed in your purchase.
Proschoice have created this quick guide to help those buying game and trail cameras in 2017 to understand what the various specifications and features mean, and how they will affect their plans for the device.
Megapixels
The megapixel rating for a trail camera, as with any camera, is a strong indicator of quality, but it’s not a guarantee. Regardless of how many megapixels the camera is working with, they will mean nothing for your image quality without an equally good lens. Still, it’s good, especially on longer range cameras, to be able to zoom far into your pictures and video without losing the details.
Trigger Speed
The amount of time the camera needs to take a photo after detecting movement. Most models today qualify as either “fast” or “faster”, with almost all triggering in under 1.5 seconds. Unless you are planning to capture images of fast moving game – or escaping intruders – having an extremely low response time isn’t as important as you might think.
Recovery Time
Connected to trigger speed, this is the amount of time the camera needs to wait after taking each photo before it can take another. If you want to capture photos of whatever enters the camera field, specifically looking for a low response time is essential – cheaper models can have recovery times of up to 30 seconds, so the variation is much more pronounced.
Memory
The capacity of the memory card or other medium is almost as important as the battery life in limiting your use of the device. Too low a capacity for storage in a high-traffic area, and you’ll have to constantly be visiting the camera to clean off junk images. A low storage capacity also essentially prohibits using the camera to film video. Look for a camera which takes high capacity storage cards or can link to cloud storage for maximum usability.
Trail cameras are an essential tool for any ranch or property owners and serious hunters needing to track game. These motion-activated, rugged outdoor camera units can be easily transported and set up wherever you need some perimeter security or you believe you will see animal activity. They then operate independently for months, photographing or recording any movement to a storage device usually occupying the same weatherproof, camouflaged case.
Chief among the many different functions upon which these camera models can be compared is their ability to record still photos or videos when triggered by motion. Historically, shoppers had to commit to one or the other when they bought their trail camera; nowadays it is much more common for a camera to be able to switch between both as needed. Both types of operation have their adherents and detractors, with pros and cons arguable on each side. So which, overall, performs better? Australia’s trail camera experts, Proschoice, have summarised the strongest points here:
A video is worth a thousand pictures
One of the main motives for buying such a camera is to observe natural wildlife in your area or on your property, studying their behaviour and movements. Whether you’re preparing to hunt these creatures or simple study the viability of their population, being able to see more of them and get a more full idea of their attitudes can only help.
Videos not only let you pick the best stills out of potentially minutes of footage, with the potential to arrive at much better shots, but they sometimes present information about an animal’s habits, movement, and looks which could never be derived from individual photos. For this reason video footage is, in an optimist’s eyes, the best possible choice for your trail cameras. But a number of potential factors can impact its viability.
The harsh realities favour photos
The first and most commonly cited argument for photo mode is the extension it lends to battery life – often over 200%. As an economical and convenience selling point, that’s a telling blow against video mode trail cameras. There is also concern that in models with flashes or other visible lights, having these devices on for an extended period, rather than the brief instant a photo takes, can spook game. You could buy a “No-Glow” camera with night vision, but nighttime video footage is almost invariably of the lowest, grainiest quality.
Of course, Proschoice are getting in new models of trail camera all the time, and functionality in these key areas are constantly improving. In time we may all switch over to video trail cameras, but in the meantime we suggest you consider what your priorities are before making the decision.

While many people prefer staying indoors during the winter months, several photography enthusiasts brave the cold weather in pursuit of a fantastic trail camera shot. Trail cameras give you the opportunity to observe wildlife in their natural surroundings. They offer you clear footage of predators and beasts without any human interference, and they help you identify the true size of the animals in your area.
Trail Cameras and Their Features
The latest cameras are equipped with numerous types of infrared flashes and HD capture technology. High-end models also come with programmable time-lapse features and lightning-fast trigger speeds that let you capture animals in motion with superb clarity.
Modern trail cameras are also both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled. They allow you to transfer and share your photographs effortlessly. These cameras are unique and come with features that are not seen in regular cameras. You can set them up to take pictures when you’re nowhere near the device. They allow you to capture pictures of predators from a distance and in the dark.
Not all trail cameras come with the same features though, and it can be quite challenging to narrow down your choice. We’ve come up with a good list of questions you need to ask yourself when you’re researching the market for a trail camera that works brilliantly in colder weather.
Choosing a Trail Camera: Questions
What Will the Trail Camera Be Used for?
Trail cameras serve many purposes. You could take them on your hunting trips, use them to detect the presence of people or vehicles on your property, set them up at zoos to monitor animal behaviour, or use them to document construction projects over several months. Keep your objectives in mind when you’re choosing a camera. Trail cameras that are used to document construction projects, for example, need a time-lapse feature.
Pro’s Choice offer you an excellent range of trail cameras perfect for every weather. Their HD trail cameras like the Spromise S358J 3G Anti-Crime Two Way Communications MMS Trail Camera allow you to monitor properties from a distance. This particular camera offers high-end two-way communication over 3G. It’s water resistant, so it’s perfect for the cool and wet winter months in Australia.
How Extreme is the Temperature Going to Be?
Standard trail cameras that are on the cheaper end of the scale may not be robust enough to withstand sub-zero temperatures. They usually stop working when the temperature dips below -12°C. You could do well with a sturdy trail camera like the Reconyx SC900C Cellular Professional Covert Camera Trap. This camera doesn’t come cheap, but it will last you several years. It lets you capture scenes in their right form.
This particular model is equipped with an Ultra HD IR camera lens that offers sharp and clear images. The camera is rather easy to set up and offers long term durability. It’s top of the line, super fast, and comes with several programming options. So if you’re thinking of going to the snow this winter, make the most of your trip with the Reconyx SC900C.
What’s your Budget?
If you’re not heading out in sub-zero temperatures and don’t want to spend too much on a trail camera, an HD game surveillance camera is a good alternative. The Original Browning BTC-4 Command Ops 8MP HD Trail Camera offers you excellent still photographs at a reasonable price.
Another easy to use and reliable camera is the Primos Hunting 12MP Proof CAM 03 Black Glow HD 63056. It offers full-colour daytime images and infrared night pictures. It's the perfect choice for documenting animals in their natural surroundings.
How Far Are You Going to Set Up the Camera?
If you plan to set up your camera to take photos of a target that’s more than 50 feet away, you’ll need a camera with a higher detection range. Most trail cameras offer detection ranges of 50 or 60 feet. The ScoutGuard SG2060-K HD Ultra 20MP ZeroGlow Trail Camera quotes a super long 100-foot detection range. It’s an excellent professional surveillance camera equipped with No Motion Blur Technology for fantastic night shots. This camera is durable and runs for more than 80 days on AA batteries.
Tips for Taking Pictures in the Colder Months
To make the most out of your trail camera in the cold weather, use lithium batteries in place of Alkaline batteries. Alkaline batteries contain a water-based electrolyte that performs poorly in cold weather. This leads to a drop in performance and runtime. Cold temperatures may also cause these batteries to burst and leak. It’s thus advisable to use lithium batteries. They have an operating range of -40°C to +70°C, and they’re ideal for extreme temperatures.
Adjustable Sensitivity Sensors
Some trail cameras come with adjustable sensitivity sensors. It’s helpful to have this feature on your camera if you plan to set it up on a very snowy day. If you lower the sensitivity sensor, you’ll prevent snow/rain from triggering the camera.
Update the Software
Cameras run on certain software. If you visit your camera manufacturer’s website, you will find updated software that’s often released after the product has been sold in stores. These updates fix bugs and problems that you’ll likely encounter at some stage.
Place your Camera Correctly
Take a compass along and point your camera to the north to get exceptional photos. When you position it in such a way that it’s pointing North, you’ll avoid sun glare and potentially ruined shots.
Protect your Camera from Thieves
Don’t leave your expensive equipment in accessible locations. Hang it higher up in the trees even if it means carrying a stool or a ladder to hide it up there. You could even consider setting it up in a den or a cave to get some truly outstanding photographs.
